Reading CAB provides a range of training services to organisations in and around the Reading District
Advice Area Courses
Combining our expertise in training with wide-ranging advising experience, we offer value-added courses twice a year on:
Bespoke and Tailored Business Courses
In addition, we can deliver customised courses to meet clients' requirements, either in Reading, or at your own location, in areas such as:
- Effective interviewing and communication
- Dealing with challenging people
- Building, developing and motivating volunteers and teams
- Conflict resolution
- Managing change in organisations
- Financial literacy and capability
Specialist Trainers and Learning Resources
All our trainers are committed to continuous professional development. They are specialists in their field and can deliver up to Level 7 on the National Qualification Framework. All course materials are developed and designed by the Training Team to meet the needs of the client and provide an excellent reference resource, reinforcing and embedding newly acquired skills.
Schools Programmes
In addition to courses offered to organisations, we also deliver sessions to schools in the Reading Borough – Know Your Rights (covering employment and consumer rights and PACE – Police & Criminal Evidence), and Personal Finance (covering basic banking, budgeting, sources of finance, student loans and identity fraud). The courses are aimed at year 11 and sixth form students and support learning on PHSE and Citizenship studies.

Understanding The Welfare Benefits System
3 one-day courses
The course is offered twice a year, on three consecutive Tuesdays. Delegates may register for all three days at one, or spread their training throughout the year to suit other commitments. |
Day 1 - Income Support & Job Seekers Allowance
Day 2 - Tax Credits, Housing & Council Tax Benefits, The Social Fund
Day 3 - Statutory Sick Pay, Incapacity for Work, Disability Living Allowance, Attendance and Carers Allowance |
Housing & Homelessness
One-day course |
Covering:
Housing Status - rangeing form protected tenancies and secure tenants to unprotected occupiers, squatters and travellers
Homelessness - Issues surrounding eligibility, needs, local authorities, review and appeals
Human Rights |
Managing Debt, Repossession & Bankruptcy
One-day course |
Providing a comprehensive framework for managing complex debt issues, including:
- Ensuring confidentiality
- Checking liability
- Identifying urgent situations, actions and priority debts
- Budgeting
- Making realistic offers to creditors
- Where to get support
